Captain Bubbles

When the Admiral of the land, Arnim, first bought land at Te Ārai he intended to create a community-driven space.
It all began as a plan for school camps to come out of the city and use the land. To create opportunities for young people to be immersed in nature, to learn about and connect with the environment beyond the city.

One day the Admiral ran into friend and DJ, Nico Stojan, which ignited the idea to have a party at Te Ārai. Having been involved in the music world since he can remember, Admiral Arnim had dreamt of owning a nightclub. But what could be better than bringing people together for a dance in nature? That’s where the idea of the isle of Boompha formed (the original name of the site).

The original End of the Line crew arrived and rigged up a sound system to accompany their picnic. As it was such a success, the events continued, creating a unique community-based environment. Once the End of the Line wrapped up, a new music & arts festival – Off the Radar – arrived at the site. A new crew who continued a tradition to make the most of a special piece of land that celebrates artistic and musical expression.

To this day, Admiral Arnim maintains a go, do it, and create attitude. Such an approach meant the sites’ story grew out of intersecting communities of creatives coming with ideas to craft musical and artistic spaces. Over time the site has transformed and flourished with the love and care of innovative groups, becoming an ever-evolving artwork, and developing a unique personality of its own.

Arnim holds the perspective that by sharing the land and creating space for people, the land gains new layers of life. As time passed by, life paths undulated, bringing people in and out of this community space, where events changed, morphed, or ended. It was in this liminal space that Captain Logan Baker was inspired with a new idea. Picking up the pace, he began pushing a new party, Shipwrecked Music & Arts Festival.

Shipwrecked brings people together from different walks of life, for a shared love of art and music. When this vibe of passion and invention is created, the Admiral of the land feels the fulfilment from sharing this nautical playground.

This is where Shipwrecked Music & Arts Festival begins, the starting point from which the departments and members of the Shipwrecked crew build upon. Unique foundations for a spectacular festival.
