Logan Baker
The main instigator.
Inspired by the details and love put into the European and Australian outdoor event scene, Captain Logan Baker realised he wanted to bring the vibe of excessive creativity and its’ energy to the shores of Aotearoa. Alongside a few core friends who shared the vision: Dale Rohan, Nats, Piers, Simon, Nico, Arnim, Jay and Lara Thomas, Shipwrecked Music & Arts Festival began to form.
The freedoms you can harness and share with crew and revellers within the outdoor events industry was a strong inspiration for this team of sailors. As the outdoor events scene has less regulation than you’d find in clubs, especially when using big Sound systems, Cap’n Logan asked; why not create an event centred around bringing people together who share a love of superior sound, originality, and nonconformity? Starting a festival from the roots up was the obvious answer.
Our cap’n holds a soft spot for the art of channelling ideas into reality. Cap’n Logan’s key mission is to round up the most talented people he can find and offer them a platform. As time has gone by, Shipwrecked has become a showcase for brilliant ideas from a creative community. He’s a captain who holds the philosophy: ‘what is better than bringing people together to create and experience something greater than what one person can achieve alone?’ You’ll find it’s this core ingredient that ignites the spirit of Shipwrecked, informing every aspect of the festivals creation.
Logan’s particular love of the build stems from the thrill of working closely with innovative seafarers. What’s not to love about synthesising an epic crew, with constructing spaces whilst being in the fresh air? The love doesn’t end there, let’s fast forward to the festival’s opening. After all the hard mahi put into cultivating the nautical playground, the cap’n feels great fulfilment from seeing the joy on festival goers & the crews faces as they interact with all the intricate spaces.
When asking what this captain does before, during and after the festival, you’ll get a shorter answer by asking what he doesn’t do. Being the driving force of the festival means he’s involved with every aspect of the festival’s creation. From creating wind to fill our sails to head designer, music booking co-director, site manager, and gardener; you name it, he’s on to it. Above all, Logan places most of his focus on the overarching vision of the festival.
